“You know what it is? Here’s the thing. The public isn’t — you know, they read newspapers, they see television, they watch. They don’t know if it’s true or false because they’re not involved. I’m involved. I’ve been involved with this stuff all my life. But I’m involved. So I know when you’re telling the truth or when you’re not. I just see many, many untruthful things.”

Ladies and gentlemen.. our President of the United States.

I watched that hour and fifteen minute display and my mood shifted from boiling to sheer laughter.  Pretty much my reaction was “WTF?”.  For one hour and fifteen minutes our president stood in front of umpteen millions of viewers and roasted the press, exaggerated facts, babbled nearly incoherently about his “fantastic landslide” win in the electoral college, promoted his affection for Putin and Russia, fired another fear salvo regarding Isis walking down Main Street America, illegal immigrants taking jobs and raping and pillaging America, bringing up Hillary Clinton for some reason, and just plain embarrassed himself.

Here’s a sample of the strange babble that comes from our president.

“I ran for president to present the citizens of our country. I am here to change the broken system so it serves their families and their communities well. I am talking — and really talking on this very entrenched power structure, and what we’re doing is we’re talking about the power structure; we’re talking about its entrenchment. As a result, the media is going through what they have to go through too often times distort – not all the time – and some of the media is fantastic, I have to say – they’re honest and fantastic.”

What the hell does any of this mean, other than the person saying it might be a bit off his rocker????

What happened to truly answering the thought provoking questions, acting presidential with a balance of knowledge with the emotion, promoting his policies with an eye for ALL Americans and not just who he perceives are his supporters, echo America’s greatness and involvement on the world stage, show some intellectual prowess, and be an optimistic leader for ALL Americans?

Now, there’s some folks who think Trump is in fact a genius and he acts in this bazaar manner to distract his opponents or somehow it’s a strategy to throw his detractors off balance.  Sorry… you have NO respect for the American people if you have to appear to be an idiot in front of them intentionally.  I don’t actually believe his behavior is all façade for effect.  He has no strategy.. just his own way of doing things that he’s used to applying in the business world.  He’s connected to his own perception of reality.  He also still dwells on this idea that there’s a huge number of his opponents who are actively trying to invalidate his win.  He’s a sore winner.. bigly.

So, what do we do?  Wait for the various investigations to run their course.. Trump and his staffers chatting with the Russians during the campaign… the issue regarding the emoluments clause coming into play regarding any Trump business entanglements in the various countries… anything yet lingering regarding Flynn and the Russians.  Allow Congress and the FBI to do their job.  Hopefully there’s some patriotic republicans with the kahunas to say enough-is-enough.  Yes, it will take a while.. and yes, in the meantime this guy is going to appear on our TV set making senseless babble.  The more he speaks, the more he’s digging his own hole.

But….. in the meantime one can’t help but be pissed off.  He says the country is very divisive, but he blames the press and democrats for that, when all he has to do is look into the mirror to see the prime culprit.  More importantly, he has does NOTHING to try and change the focus of the country against being divisive.

Keep banging away at your Congressmen, folks.

Carry on, America!

  1. Doug,

Well said…. I especially agree with your observation noting he is digging his own hole. The sad part is, he believes he is building something, rather than digging. He is so entrenched in believing his own bullshit, he cannot even tell how he affects others with his ignorance. It might help if he would learn to read past the second grade level; he’d at least have some more words to use to display his ignorance. At this point, his vocabulary consists of no more than approximately 400 words, with a limited number of adjectives from which to choose, all of which are chosen to highlight his egotism.

The system is shaking itself apart, anyway; all one can do at this point is be ready to jump in whatever direction reality leaves us to choose from….

    gigoid, the dubious

  2. Sadly.. there IS something to that. I am also reminded of a Churchill quote… “If you are looking for an argument AGAINST democracy just talk politics with the average person on the street.” 🙂

  3. One of my greatest fears is that America has become too big and too diverse and too ideologically divided to ever be governed effectively again. There is too much obstructionism from both sides of the aisle — too much angst — too much bitterness, hatred and refusal to work across aisles. Our enemies are watching this state of affairs and I believe they are pleased with our divided nature because it does tend to weaken us as a nation. All of this might be nothing but paranoia on my part but it is something that is constantly on my mind these days. By the way — your new blog is just great! Just great!

    • Well, John.. that’s kind of you to say that. I know we often have a different view of things, especially when it comes to the new fellow as our president. But I have no doubt of your patriotism. We are, after all, Americans in the end. Yet, regarding your other remarks, there are some hardened differences in the land. My optimism rests firstly with having faith in the Constitution. That is the glue that binds us. We also go through cycles where it seems governing the nation appears to be a frustrating affair. But something usually comes along to kick us back into some level of unified gear to make things work. You’ve lived a few years longer than me and should be able to reflect back on that trend through the years. Our “enemies” who are watching and looking for the weak spots will sometimes make a move (and it doesn’t have to be a military threat.. maybe economic or political) and that move will serve to galvanize us once again. But, yes.. this IS a tough cycle we are going through. But as I look back I often cite the worst time was the late 60’s-early 70’s; 1968-69 to be more exact. Assassinations, civil rights riots, anti-war riots, the War itself, the social upheaval brought on by the hippie movement and us baby boomers pushing the limits on personal identity. At the time I thought the whole world was going up in flames. Yet, even with Trump in the White House.. we are no where at that level.

      • Those are comforting words, Doug and I appreciate them. By the way … My support of Trump is not set in stone. He has to prove himself to me. I voted for him because I couldn’t stand the thought of coronating a queen … especially a queen who was so arrogantly sure it was her turn at bat …and I had had enough of Clintonism from the last go round … so Trump was my choice of the lesser of evils … but I am not rabid about him … I do think he deserves a chance … I do think the media and everybody should stop the constant attacks until he does something to actually deserve them … But our disagreements are what puts spice in life and even though we may disagree vehemently I will never let our disagreements become personality conflict … I am always willing to learn and to change if I feel I am justified … I was a rabid Leftie until Obummer approved the jobs killing TPP and after that I felt the American Worker had been betrayed once again …. and I also thought he was weak in many areas … but that is neither here nor there because “The One” is gone now … unless there is some truth to the claim he is setting up a shadow government … I am still worrying about that one even though I feel it might be a conspiracy theory and nothing more .
